Created in the 1980s, this silk textile was a part of Jim Thompson’s mission to revive and promote Thailand’s ancient silk trade, which had all but disappeared by the mid-20th century.
Jim Thompson, an American entrepreneur, is credited with the revival of Thailand’s silk industry after World War II. His work not only reintroduced Thai silk to the world but also helped solidify its place in global luxury markets. With his deep appreciation for the rich heritage of Thai weaving techniques, Thompson’s designs merged traditional methods with modern aesthetics, bringing Thai silk to the forefront of international fashion and design.
This piece showcases his signature blend of vibrant colours and intricate motifs - as seen here by the colours and feature a Leopard found throughout Thailand.
